Hatsune Miku's "Ryusou" Unveils at Okinawa's Kokusai Street
Dec 11,2024
The Okinawa Tourism Company (OTS) and local media firm Ashibi have announced an exciting collaboration featuring virtual singer Hatsune Miku, named "CHURA MIKU STREET," set to take place along Okinawa's Kokusai Street. The event's main visual artwork is designed by the talented VTuber Shigure Ui, known for her unique style and creativity.
OTS, a well-established travel agency in Okinawa since 1958, has a rich history rooted in the tourism industry, dating back to the U.S. military rule over the Ryukyu Islands. The agency has expanded its services throughout Japan, including a presence in Taipei, Singapore, and South Korea, focusing on car rentals and travel solutions. Meanwhile, Ashibi, founded in 2014, operates as the virtual ambassador for Okinawa through its VTuber, Neuma Ui, and engages in local promotion and entertainment transformation, aiming to showcase Okinawa's charm globally.
The "CHURA MIKU STREET" event, featuring the beloved virtual diva Hatsune Miku, aims to draw more visitors to Okinawa and offer immersive experiences. Kokusai Street, a renowned tourist destination in Naha City, will serve as the backdrop for this collaboration, which seeks to engage both domestic and international Hatsune Miku fans with Okinawa's vibrant local culture.
Shigure Ui's artwork depicts Hatsune Miku adorned in traditional Okinawan attire, known as "Ryusou." Currently, two initiatives have been revealed as part of this collaboration. The first is a special travel package called "CHURA MIKU STREET Okinawa Travel Plan," exclusively for Hatsune Miku fans in Japan. Participants can register starting December 9 and will receive limited-edition merchandise, including tote bags, sports towels, acrylic keychains, and polaroid-style cards.
The second initiative is an illustration contest themed around "Hatsune Miku x Okinawa," which will run from December 9, 2024, to January 31, 2025. Selected artworks will be showcased during the "OKIVFES 2025" festival, both on Kokusai Street and in the metaverse space known as "Virtual Okinawa."
Enhancing Local Engagement Through Virtual Events
This collaboration not only promotes Okinawa's tourism but also highlights the growing trend of virtual events in engaging audiences. By integrating popular virtual characters like Hatsune Miku, the event aims to create a unique blend of local culture and modern entertainment, attracting a younger demographic.
Highlighting Okinawa's Cultural Heritage
Beyond just a promotional event, "CHURA MIKU STREET" serves as a platform to educate participants about Okinawa's rich cultural heritage. Workshops and exhibitions related to traditional crafts, local cuisine, and music will be organized, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the local lifestyle.
Collaboration with Local Businesses
The event also emphasizes collaboration with local businesses along Kokusai Street. Merchants will participate by offering special deals and themed products, fostering community involvement and ensuring that the local economy benefits from the influx of visitors drawn by the event.
Future Prospects for Virtual Tourism
As virtual tourism continues to gain traction, events like "CHURA MIKU STREET" could pave the way for future collaborations between local cultures and digital platforms. This innovative approach not only promotes tourism but also establishes Okinawa as a pioneer in integrating virtual experiences with real-world attractions.
With the unique combination of Hatsune Miku's global appeal and Okinawa's cultural richness, "CHURA MIKU STREET" promises to be an unforgettable experience for fans and tourists alike.
